Androgenetic alopecia is the most common form of hair loss in both men and women. It is a genetically influenced and hormonally mediated condition characterised by a gradual miniaturisation of the hair follicle. Over time, affected hairs become progressively thinner, shorter, and lighter in colour until growth may eventually cease altogether. This process does not usually happen suddenly, but rather develops slowly over months or years.
